Recognizing what’s “normal” for your body
Coming to MD Family Clinic for a women’s well visit is an excellent way to learn what’s “normal” for your body. For instance, the primary purpose of breast exams is to familiarize your provider (and yourself) with the look and feel of your breasts, so any subtle changes can be detected early.
During a breast exam, we check for lumps, dimpling, nipple discharge, redness, swelling, or changes in shape and texture. Finding these signs of breast cancer early significantly increases your treatment options and survival rates — which can be as high as 99%.
Testing for cervical cancer, HPV, pregnancy, and more
Typically performed every 3-5 years, a pap smear checks for precancerous or cancerous cells on the cervix. Human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is often performed at the same time to detect the presence of the virus. Using a tiny brush, your MD Family Clinic provider takes a small sample of cells from your cervix, which is then evaluated under a microscope.
Could you be pregnant? Instead of relying on store-bought pregnancy tests that may be inaccurate, visit your nearest MD Family Clinic clinic for fast, confidential pregnancy testing. Both urine and blood tests are available, and we can provide immediate counseling or referrals if needed.
