Q&A with Kiyah
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
The Lion King! I have loved it since childhood, and I even named my two cats Simba and Nala!
What is your favorite children's book?
My favorite book series growing up was Harry Potter. I looked forward to each new book and loved getting lost in the story.
What was your favorite childhood toy?
Easy-bake oven!
Who is your greatest inspiration?
My greatest inspiration is my husband. He has overcome significant challenges throughout his life with remarkable resilience and determination. Despite growing up in Haiti and facing difficult circumstances, he never lost sight of his goals. He went on to earn multiple degrees, became fluent in three languages, and dedicated his time to helping others, including serving as an interpreter to assist orphans in finding adoptive families. His perseverance, compassion, and commitment to lifelong learning inspire me every day.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy trying new restaurants, reading, getting out for a jog, and treating myself to a relaxing nail appointment. I also love traveling and exploring new places whenever I can. One of my favorite destinations is Disney World!
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I pursued certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner because I wanted the opportunity to care for patients across the lifespan. What I enjoy about working with pediatric patients is the opportunity to make a positive impact early in life through preventive care, education, and encouragement. It is rewarding to support both children and their parents as they work toward lifelong health and wellness.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
One of the qualities that sets me apart is my passion for patient education. I believe that patients and families make the best healthcare decisions when they understand their health, their treatment options, and the reasoning behind their care plan. I enjoy taking the time to explain medical information in a way that is clear, approachable, and easy to understand.
I am also detail-oriented and thorough in my approach to care. My goal is to ensure that every patient leaves feeling heard, informed, and confident about the next steps in their treatment. I encourage questions and strive to create an environment where patients and families feel comfortable discussing their concerns.
Building positive relationships is an important part of my practice. I focus on listening carefully, showing empathy, and partnering with patients and their families to support their health goals. By fostering open communication and trust, I hope to help patients feel empowered and actively involved in their care.
