Q&A with Margaret
What is your favorite animated movie or cartoon?
Wall-E
What is your favorite children's book?
Probably 'A Wrinkle in Time.' I remember it was the first book I had ever read with someone named Meg in it, which is the name I have gone by since birth, so that made it special for me. Plus it was the first fantasy-type book I had read and I found it to be fascinating. I recently reread it and it still holds true!
What was your favorite childhood toy?
I was a big fan of Polly Pockets - I have always loved miniature things, so I had so much fun with those. Legos are also high up there and I still enjoy putting Legos together today!
Who is your greatest inspiration?
My niece is my greatest inspiration. Becoming an aunt has been the best role I have ever been given in life. Watching her grow up and being able to help shape her world has only added to my drive to help others and do what I can to contribute to creating a world I would be proud for her to grow old into.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I have so many hobbies! I love live music, film, reading, coloring, knitting, embroidery, painting, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. I enjoy running, hiking, traveling, and being in nature. I love spending time with my family and friends whenever possible.
What inspired you to work in pediatrics?
I have been doing urgent care for many years now and I have always enjoyed working with children and their families. Children are the future of our world and being able to keep them as healthy as possible during their formative years of life, as well as helping guide parents through some of the hurdles associated with childhood development and physical and emotional health during these times, is key to their long-term health.
What unique qualities, skills, or services set you apart, and how do you build a positive rapport with patients and their families?
I love building relationships with my patients and their families so that they always feel they have a safe space to come to when seeing me. I am very passionate about education and prevention as well, and I continuously work to ensure I am explaining everything to patients in ways that are easily understandable regardless of prior knowledge, experiences, or backgrounds. People tend to be more willing and able to do things when they understand the 'why' behind their actions, and medicine is no different! I am always trying to make sure this 'why' is clear so we can achieve the best possible health outcomes together as a team.
How do you accommodate patients with special needs?
Everyone faces different challenges in day-to-day life, and I always treat the patient and their family/caregivers based on their individual situations and struggles. I also take into account non-medical issues they may run into and what a day in their life would look like so we make sure that any interventions we opt for will be as seamlessly incorporated into their daily lives as is possible. I also am passionate about always keeping up to date with current recommendations and guidelines to ensure I am providing the best care for each individual patient I see.
